They Walk Among Us
I frowned, trying to figure something out in my mind. After pushing to my feet, I go back to the stove and finish dishing out dinner. I carried it back to the table, and gestured to see if Zach wanted something else to drink. He shook his head, and I sat. Before I took a bite, I tapped his hand to get him to look at me.
Sadness swirled in his eyes, and I could tell he truly cared for this Killian man who the government killed. I fumbled with the words to comfort him, but nothing came to me.
::I don’t understand. Why didn’t they kill you or at least take you with them? Didn’t they think Killian would have told you about his research?::
“I asked myself that over the next four years. Why wasn’t I taken? Shortly after Killian died, I started my own research, but on the surface, I kept it very safe. I only read the books the government certified as the truth about the Opalites. I didn’t try to dig any further.” Zach pushed the pasta around his plate. “A couple of months before I graduated, I ran into a person who claimed to be a friend of Killian’s. She gave me some files, and somehow I managed to hide them from the people who followed me.”
::You had people following you?::
Zach shrugged. “I’m not sure if they were really watching every move I made, or if they just checked in on me once in a while. See, I’m the only son of the country’s biggest hero. I think they were waiting for me to get done with school before they recruited me for their public relations department. They wanted to trot me out at functions to prove all was right in the world.”
::But you weren’t willing to do that.::
Even with just having really met Zach, I could tell he wouldn’t enjoy being anyone’s mouthpiece, especially for a government he didn’t believe in.
“No. I wasn’t, once I figured out the reason they didn’t do anything to me was because I was too important to them as a figurehead. They could point to me as an example of how the country had continued on and been successful after the invasion.” Zach snorted and leaned back in his chair, folding his arms over his chest.
I tried not to ogle him, but the way his biceps flexed as he folded his arms, and how board his chest was drew my gaze like a moth to a candle. Silly really, to be thinking such things while my sister was being held captive, and terrible things were probably being done to her.
::Do you have any idea why they didn’t just take me instead of beating me up?::
I tried to focus on more important things than how it would feel to be held in Zach’s arms. I watched as he scrubbed his hand over his head, and sighed.
“It’s hard to say. I’m leaning toward them not knowing you were her brother. How much alike do you two look?”
I thought about my bright vivacious sister, and grimaced. ::We really don’t look alike at all. She’s very blonde while I’m dark. If she didn’t look exactly like my mother, and act just like my father, I’d question whether we were even related.::
“That must be it then. They assumed you were just a nosy by-stander, and instead of sending you on your way, they chose to attack you.” Zach frowned. “It’s odd though, because normally the agents are much more discrete than that.”
::I’d been following them for a while, hoping they would take me back to where they’d held Rissia. I wasn’t paying attention, that’s how they got me in the alley.:: I stood and gathered the plates. ::They warned me away, said I didn’t want anything to do with them.::
“In a way, they’re right. You need to be very careful, Raven. If, at any time, they realize you’re an Opalite as well, they’ll come after you, and you’ll never see the light of day again.”
Zach joined me at the sink, and we washed the dishes in silence. I tried to ignore how marvelous Zach smelled, some odd combination of spice and disinfectant. I never thought I’d find those scents lust inducing, but apparently while being worn by Zach, my body thought they were like vanilla sugar cookies or something. He brushed past me to go to the cabinets, and his hand grazed my ass.
My cock stiffened, and I bit back a moan. I’d never been this attracted to anyone in my life. Of course, living out in the backwoods of the state didn’t give me much opportunity to explore my sexuality. Like not at all when most of the people were related to my foster parents, and it would be like incest to mess around with any of them.
A noise caused me to turn around, and I caught Zach staring at my butt with longing in his eyes. When he noticed he was staring at my groin, he looked up at me. I couldn’t stop, even if I had thought about how bad an idea all this was.
I stepped forward, meeting him in the middle of the kitchen, and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He embraced me, pulling me tight to him, and our lips met for the first time.
It was everything I thought a kiss would be. He tasted like the spaghetti sauce with a hint of garlic, and some unique flavor all his own. Zach claimed my mouth like he searched for world dominance, and I was his first conquest. He entwined one of his hands in my hair, holding my head still while he plundered me. He slid his other hand down to grab my ass, and squeeze.
I gasped, and he chuckled, but didn’t let go. In fact, he backed me against the refrigerator, and settled between my spread legs. I whined as our erections rubbed together. My body demanded more than just friction hidden by clothes. It wanted full on nakedness.
